Color Run 5K

Last weekend Kristina and I ran in the first Color Run to come to Augusta.  It was a 5K run through Augusta and over 5,000 people participated.  Their slogan is "The Happiest 5K on the Planet" and it is SO TRUE!

We headed to the start line...

and were part of the first group to start.

There were four Color Stations along the way...

and we ran through each one just like this. ;)

Even though it isn't a timed, competitive 5K Kristina kept track of our time on her Runtastic app, and we were super excited when we realized we ran the entire thing in about 29 minutes, which was a full 4 minutes shorter than the last 5K we ran just two weeks ago.

Each registration packet comes with a small bag of colored powder, which is used in the Color Explosion after the race.  After a ten-second countdown everyone threw their color packets in the air at the same time, which was one of the coolest things I've ever been apart of.  There was so much colorful powder in the air that it was hard to see for a few seconds.  It was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience!

I think I speak for Kristina when I say we had the best time and would definitely recommend running in the Color Run if it comes to a city near you. ;)

Bird Dog Breakaway 5K

Last Saturday I ran my second 5k with Kristina and am super proud to say we ran the whole thing!  It was the 6th Annual Bird Dog Breakaway,  and we started at the park and then wound around through my neighborhood.

And do you see our times?  I owed Kristina a "win" after our Loop the Lake 5k last year. ;)

Spartan Scamper 5K

Last weekend we braved the overcast, cooler weather and participated in the Spartan Scamper 5K, which benefited the EBA Alumni Association.  It was their first 5K race and they had a great turnout, especially considering the weather! Gaines, Amy, Caroline, and I started off by walking the first two miles while Gaines' mom quickly passed us.  Gaines and I decided to run the last mile (which was easier said than done), but still couldn't catch up to Lightning Julie. ;)  She ended up beating all of us and won an award for her age group!

This is quite possibly my favorite picture of all time. ;)

I thought this one was so cute!  This is Gaines meeting one of my students after the race.

What a fun morning!  My next 5K is in October.  Kristina and I signed up for the Color Run, which is coming to Augusta, and promised each other that we'd run the entire thing.  I've been training with my "Couch to 5K" app and with two weeks down (and six to go), I'm feeling pretty good so far.  Let's hope this motivation lasts!

Happy Wednesday!
