Den Update!

The other day I showed off our new couches, and today I'm back with some actual camera pictures... instead of Instragram pictures from my phone. :)

Our den has definitely transformed over the last two years, and it was fun to look back on pictures to see how far it's come.  Here was our den right after Gaines bought the house...

...and after his family painted it and he got new hardwood floors (which you can't see in this picture)...

...and again after we added larger paintings, new borrowed lamps, and new pillows.

Here it is updated with our new couches, a new plant in the corner, and a few more accessories! :)

Last, but not least, here are some views from the other side of the room, even though that part hasn't changed much.

And yes that would be Gossip Girl reruns on TV... the husband obviously wasn't home when these pictures were taken. ;)

Update

Phew, school started two weeks ago, and I feel like I haven't been able to catch my breath!  The kids really have been great so far.... it's just all the extra paperwork, meetings, duties, etc. that take up so much time (any other teacher friends know what I mean?).

Anyways, I just wanted to update with a few random life-happenings.  First I want to wish the 'ole blog a very happy birthday! I started her (I can call it her, right?) one year ago today, which you can read about here.

I treated myself to a new pair of Jack Rogers as a little back-to-school gift to myself.  I'm honestly ashamed to admit how many pairs I already own, but they're comfortable and go with anything.  Plus, they pretty cute, right?

Last weekend Gaines and I drove up to High Point, North Carolina to see Windsor and Chris' new house, and holy amazingness...it is gorgeous!  While we were there, we not only got to celebrate their "house warming," but we also got to meet their sweet pups Riley and Reese and celebrate Windsor's birthday (which is today!).  I just love my friends. :)

I stole this one from Facebook. ;)

And last but not least, we ordered new couches from a local furniture store in Augusta back in June and they finally came in on Monday!  I absolutely love them, and especially love having seating in the den for more than two people...and a dog.  Speaking of, Molly already loves the new couches...but then again, we didn't expect anything less.

Happy Thursday!

Pinteresting Ideas -- Classroom Edition

Whenever Gaines would mention how lucky I was to  not work all summer, I'd just point my finger at him and say...

Kidding. :) But I was admittingly on Pinterest a lot this summer getting ideas for my classroom.  After being in a room that looked identical for the last three years, I figured it was time to switch it up a little.  And thankfully, Pinterest was always at my fingertips to help me do so.

If you follow me on Pinterest, you've probably seen a lot of these pictures before, but here are all of the new ideas that have showed up in my classroom.
A Crayon Wreath -- to add color to the door
A Blue Bookshelf -- to display my teaching books

A Memo Board -- made from a picture fame and scrapbook paper for an instant white board

A "Brownie Points" Board-- if students get compliments from an adult besides the teacher, they can earn real brownies

A "Data Board" -- to set goals and show growth over the year

An "Absent Folders" Board -- a spot to put the handouts for those students who are absent

A "Shoot for the Stars" Bulletin Board -- to relate to our astronomy unit

An "Bravo" Bulletin Board -- the clips provide an easy way to display student work

A "Word Wall Garden" -- to show students key vocabulary from each unit in a fun way

A Classroom Library -- where books are organized by topic

Labeled School Supplies -- for easy use and easy storing

Line Tape -- so my kids never have an excuse for an ugly line again ;)

A "Pick Me" Jar -- to randomly call on students, praise them for good behavior, etc.

Science Journals -- for students to record the important information they are learning

Crates -- to hold the science journals and different colored crates will be for different classes
via

A "Teacher Binder" -- with dividers for everything I need

Motivational Posters -- to  hopefully encourage my students

A "Standards and Agenda" Board -- so students know exactly what is being taught

Classroom Curtains -- to add a little character to the room

I'll post pictures of my classroom soon, but in the meantime I'll leave you with my other favorite teacher-related SomeEcard:

Happy pinning. :)
