5 Days and Counting

We had such a fun weekend...
hanging out with friends (happy birthday bo!),
doing yard work (who would have thought I would ever say that?),
grilling out (homeade burgers are the best),
going to church (we love fumc),
and watching "The Hunger Games" (which was oh-so-good!).

Now the only thing getting me through the next five days until Spring Break is knowing that I get to see these people (and celebrate Baby Borges)....

...at the end of the week!!!

Whoops, and how could I forget to mention how excited I am to see this precious face??

I hope you had a great weekend, and Happy Monday!

Movie Mayhem

Gaines and I just bought two tickets to see "The Hunger Games" on Sunday!!  Anyone else super excited? We thought....

Anyways, we also watched "Courageous" this past weekend, which is a great movie that was made by a church in Albany, Georgia.  While the acting's not the best, the message is awesome.  It got me thinking about other good movies we had watched lately ($1 for a movie in RedBox?  Yes, please!) and I wanted to share some of our my recent favorites.

Courageous
Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. When tragedy hits home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer to God … and to their children?

Contagion
An action-thriller that takes place in a worst case scenario of a deadly virus that quickly spreads across the globe.

The Hangover: Part II
Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu’s wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don’t always go as planned.

Waiting for Superman
An examination of the crisis of public education in the United States through multiple interlocking stories—from a handful of students and their families whose futures hang in the balance, to the educators and reformers trying to find real and lasting solutions within a dysfunctional system.

Cars 2
When star racecar Lighting McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix, Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.

The Help
A young white woman in the early 1960s in Mississippi becomes interested in the plight of the African-American domestic servants that every family has working for them. She writes their stories about mistreatment, abuse and heartbreak, all just before the Civil Rights revolution.

 Friends with Benefits
A headhunter recruits a magazine editor for a job, and both realize they are too busy to find a mate.  They agree to sleep together with no strings attached; however, things start to get complicated.

Water for Elephants
A 90-year-old man reminisces about his life during the Depression, when he found work at a B-level circus taking care of the animals. He sees the brutality of circus life while falling for the wife of an abusive animal trainer.

Oh, and all of the movie synopses above came from Movie Insider.  Any other good ones I left off the list?

And besides "The Hunger Games" I also can't wait to see "The Vow" and "The Lorax."  With such expensive movie theater tickets, though, those last two will just have to wait until they make their little way into the RedBox.

Happy Thursday!

St. Patty's Day: Part 2

This past weekend, we doned our finest green and celebrated in honor of St. Patrick.

We had friends over for some drinks and appetizers...

and lots of jello shots...

and then headed to Burke Perk for dinner with what felt like the rest of Waynesboro.

We watched our favorite adults karaoke....

drank green beer...

and had a fun night with our great friends.

I hope you enjoyed the weekend, too!

Ten on Tuesday

I haven't been very good about taking pictures lately, but thought I'd update on life even without them. :)

1.  Two weeks ago my brother had to drive to Columbia for work, and since Waynesboro happens to be on the way, he drove up the night before and stayed with us.  It was so great to see him and catch up. He's doing great down in Florida, and I'm just so proud of him!

2.  And speaking of family, two weekends ago Amy was in town from Atlanta, so we all got to have dinner together at Gaines' parent's house.  I love nights like those!

3. This past weeknd Gaines was out of town, so Amy McGoff drove down from Augusta for a "sister datenight," as we like to call them.  She's my first out-of-town friend to see the house, and we had so much fun catching up and talking about her upcoming wedding over dinner and wine.

4. Speaking of wine, for Christmas my family got me a 3-month subscription to the Wine of the Month Club.  I get a bottle of red and a bottle of white in the mail each month and so far, the four bottles I've gotten have been really good.  It's such a fun surprise every month, and I would definitely recommend it as a gift. And if wine isn't your thing, they have tons of other "clubs" to choose from.

5.  I'm thinking about joining the Junior League of Augusta.  It seems like a sorority for grown ups with meetings, socials, and lots of volunteering.  Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. :)

6.  Does anyone else love "Say Yes to the Dress?"  The new episode that aired Friday features a cute girl named Lauren who is searching for her wedding dress, but who was also recently paralyzed from the waist down after being shot in the back.  I got chills watching the episode on Friday night, realizing that she was one of the vicitms in the Midtown shooting that claimed the life of my unbelievably sweet sorority sister Brittney Watts this past summer.  It is such a senseless act of violence and such a tragic day.  You read more about it in an AJC article here and watch a little clip of the episode here.

7.  On a lighter note, this spring weather is ah-ma-zing!  I'm loving it.  And even though I didn't love losing an hour on Sunday, I love that it stays lighter later.

8.  I just ordered these placemats from Crate and Barrel to match our scarlet-colored Fiesta dinner plates from Macy's.  I just love the bright colors!

9.  Spring Break is less than three weeks away, which means I'll be home in 18 days. I can't wait to see my parents and bahmerahs and am so excited to help celebrate Dems and baby Borges (who is a girl, by the way!!).

10. Gaines and I love making strawberry smoothies, especially now that it's warmer and strawberries are back in season.  We just blend 1 6-oz container of very vanilla Yoplait Light yogurt, 4-5 strawberries, 4 large ice cubes, and a splash of orange juice per person.  They are so easy and delicious and are the perfect drink during this spring weather.

Happy Tuesday!

Jeff Cup

If you're in Richmond this weekend, you might have heard of this little soccer tournament called the Jefferson Cup...

The Richmond Strikers are hosting the Jeff Cup for the 33rd year, and it's one of the biggest soccer tournaments in the country.  Thousands of games will be played over the next three weekends at ten venues across Richmond.  Over 900 teams will play, which were selected from over 1,400 teams that applied from 35 states across the country!  An estimated 24,000 hotel room nights are booked for the tournament, which includes the players, their families, youth coaches, referees, and 425 college coaches.  And get this-- the three weekends have an estimated $15 million impact on the Richmond region, which you can read more about in the Richmond Times Dispatch here.

Here we are at one of the fields back in 2009

I am SO proud of my dad and all of the hard work he has put into growing the Richmond Strikers and the Jeff Cup each year.  His hard work and dedication is so inspiring, and I am so proud of him!  My mom plays a huge part in the weekends, too, and is their #1 volunteer.

P.S. I'm wearing my '09 Jefferson Cup T-shirt right now, Dad.  Any chance you'd want to snag me this year's version? ;)

The Future Mr. and Mrs. Meyer

Wedding season is underway, which means lots of showers and chances to celebrate with friends!  Yesterday, I drove to Atlanta for the day to celebrate Lindsay's upcoming wedding and to "shower" the future Mrs. Meyer with gifts and love.

Love you twinny and can't wait to watch you say "I do" in less than four months!

I'm a Fan of the Fans

A couple of weekends ago Gaines and I decided to update the lovely twin fans that were in the den and our room...

And let me tell you, I'm a big fan.

Hahahahaha.

Anyways, here are the "before" and "afters":

And just some proof that I do help that 'ole husband of mind around the house... ;)

Happy Thursday!
