If you're in Richmond this weekend, you might have heard of this little soccer tournament called the Jefferson Cup...
The Richmond Strikers are hosting the Jeff Cup for the 33rd year, and it's one of the biggest soccer tournaments in the country. Thousands of games will be played over the next three weekends at ten venues across Richmond. Over 900 teams will play, which were selected from over 1,400 teams that applied from 35 states across the country! An estimated 24,000 hotel room nights are booked for the tournament, which includes the players, their families, youth coaches, referees, and 425 college coaches. And get this-- the three weekends have an estimated $15 million impact on the Richmond region, which you can read more about in the Richmond Times Dispatch here.
Here we are at one of the fields back in 2009
I am SO proud of my dad and all of the hard work he has put into growing the Richmond Strikers and the Jeff Cup each year. His hard work and dedication is so inspiring, and I am so proud of him! My mom plays a huge part in the weekends, too, and is their #1 volunteer.
P.S. I'm wearing my '09 Jefferson Cup T-shirt right now, Dad. Any chance you'd want to snag me this year's version? ;)
